What is Vinyl Cutting and Printing?
Vinyl printing, also known as heat transfer vinyl (HTV) or vinyl cut printing, is a method of applying designs, logos, and text to various items like t-shirts, sports jerseys, jackets, hoodies, and more. It involves cutting a design out of a sheet of vinyl material and then using heat to transfer the design onto the desired item.
Process
The process of vinyl printing involves the following steps:
-
Design Creation: The desired design is created using graphic design software. The design is typically composed of solid colors and simple shapes, as vinyl cutting involves cutting out shapes from a single-colored sheet.

-
Vinyl Cutting: The design is sent to a vinyl cutting machine, which precisely cuts the design out of a sheet of vinyl material. The excess vinyl material around the design is called "weeding."

-
Heat Transfer: The cut vinyl design is placed on the item to be printed (e.g., a t-shirt). A heat press machine is used to apply heat and pressure to the vinyl, adhering it to the fabric. The heat activates an adhesive on the back of the vinyl, bonding it to the fabric.

-
Peeling: Once the vinyl has been heated and adhered to the fabric, the carrier sheet (the material that the vinyl was cut from) is peeled away, leaving the design on the item.
